Hello 2011

images_nypl_orgI moved to England. Ryan and I moved in to our first place together. My family came over here for the first time. I got married and we had our first Christmas here. It’ll be one year since moving here on the 13th.

Seeing so many New Year resolution lists and I’ve prepared one of my own. It’s a mashup of things I’d like to do in 2011 and things I want to do more.

1. At least a half an hour of Yoga practice each day
2. Eat more healthy throughout the week and whatever the heck I want on the weekends
3. Keep in touch with friends and family more
4. Try a fig
5. Learn how to drive on the OTHER side of the road – eek
6. Get a really good job that makes me happy
7. Fly back to visit America and stop by New York
8. Take a sewing class
9. Chop my hair off reeeeally short again.
10. Explore cooking more and fill my new recipe book
11. Move into a bigger place
12. Go see a band I love
13. Eat squid ink pasta

There are lots of things I’d love to do but I guess that’s a good start. Can’t shove everything into one year….or can I? :)

Happy New Year everyone. I get to kiss my man at midnight for the first time!

Food Coma

011005007017013And it’s still in the process of being eaten. I’ve never experienced so much stuffing of the face. We kept my family tradition of having Chinese food on Christmas eve and I felt right at home. They really know how to put on a feast in England and it doesn’t just last for one day. We made Santa’s Whiskers and attempted to bake these Roasted Chestnut Cookies but it turns out they can be pretty dangerous for teeth if you don’t chop the chestnuts finely…like it says.

1st Christmas

039038 My first Christmas– what a goof!! Familiar huge eyes and…claws.

We did tons of shopping today. K, we walked around all day long and finally ended up finding the presents we were looking for. I don’t suggest the mall…unless you’re going into Zara. I somehow convinced Ryan to go in three times, making sure I pointed out my favorites ;D.

Good luck to all you last minuters!

Someone has a case of the Fridays

1925photo1108xmasHello! Thanks for all of the lovely comments on Monday’s post. Sometimes we just need a shake (vanilla). I’ve been trying to remind myself to stop walking around like a zombie and really experience even the simplest things like walking into town in the afternoon, making dinner or even washing dishes. How does the breeze feel? Are there birds chirping or are there kids crossing the street holding their mother’s hand? Listen to the leaves crunching under your feet. When you’re cooking dinner, chop the onion mindfully, cry your eyes out, laugh, possibly curse at me for making you experience the onion! Ok ok but you get the idea. Try it for just a day and tell me how it goes. Maybe you’re already doing these things. Way to not be a zombie!

I’ve got a good ol fashioned Friday list of clickables for you.

x Amazing purple fluffiness, please.

x I cannot believe this but am loving every minute of this. I have to go and see if for myself.

x I love a good collection. My Mom has lots of vintage fans, globes, well everything but I’ve yet to find what I should be collecting. I used to collect tea pots but I only had one. Sounds like a bad rap lyric. Mom did give me a few pieces of my Uncles (huge) Joan Crawford collection. Ah-may-zing treasures.

x I’m seeing tons of gorgeous festive wreaths lately but this one is awesome and I can guarantee we’d be the only flat in England with this baby hanging on our door…unless you’re from England and you make it. So, if you do make it I’d like one too – call me.

x I thought these were little embroidered something's and then I actually read the words (pictures ooo!) and they’re cookies!

x Ballet and tap are over and I’m no pro but I can twirl a little. I read this and am kinda glad I never took classes when I was a little Katie and ended up being a tiny dancer. Plus my feet aren’t awesome but I’ve seen what happens to them! I kinda want to see Black Swan but am freaked out. Huge wuss.

X These dishes please.

Have a decent mindful weekend! ;)

Here and now

Sometimes we just don’t know what will happen next... we think we do but we don’t. Treasure special moments. Try to do everyday things mindfully. Start to say the things you think about but won’t say. It makes a difference in my day because they just go by way too fast.

Year of the Dog

Year Of The Dogmolly shannonHas anyone seen the movie Year of the Dog? I randomly landed on the movie last night and watched it. I laughed, I cried and I think I’ve found another one of my favorite movies. How have I gone this long without knowing about this movie?! If you’re an animal lover, go watch it. The actors play their weird characters sooo well. Some may roll their eyes and some may just want to go adopt an animal this Christmas (do it! do it!). I wish we could. We don’t have enough room for a bigger pet. Ryan and I both miss having a dog around. For now we’ll get our dog fix by movies and waving at cute dogs in car windows.

Our tree

I love it. I wish I could look at it all year long. A Christmas tree really makes a room look great. I’ve been more festive than I have in years. It’s very Christmassy here. We’ve got our tree up, spiced oranges, snowflakes and Christmas cards. It feels more like Christmastime when I’m somewhere with actual seasons. I do wish we were surrounded by more family but I know one day we’ll all be together again.

Dreamy Hair

About an hour ago I tweeted this photo of some dream hair and wished I could have it too. I’m tired of wishing I had that hair, someone else’s hips, that bum or those boobs. I’d love to be more comfortable in my own skin and I’m working on it. I usually make stupid New Year’s resolutions (like no snapping for a year) and this year they’ll be really meaningful. One of them will be to love myself more. SO I made my version of dreamy hair. Go me.010

Bye for now, snow!

003001Yes, more snow photos. There’s only a lump of snow left on the grass now. It was all washed away by the rain. We had a good weekend. Visited the in-laws and picked up Nutella (the hamster). They’ve been hamster sitting for weeks.

It smells super festive in here. I’ve just finished making a spiced orange and hung it up. We did our Christmas tree decoration shopping so now we just need a tree! This will be my first real tree in yeeeears. OH Ryan hasn’t seen A Christmas Story. WT?! So American though, right?

I’ve got a Christmas festival to prepare for on Friday. Making festive lanterns, cards and things. I’m going to make sure I bundle up and bring a blanket. I’m pretty sure I’m going to freeze my ass off though. How is everyone coping with the freezing cold weather?

Secrets in the snow

It started snowing pretty hard last night and we bundled up quickly and played silently (as it was nearly 12am). We threw snowballs, made snowhearts and snowmen. I danced and he threw. We really messed up all that pretty snow. Then I woke up this morning to this!001 002 003 It’s ALMOST like it never happened.

It kinda snowed! I’d love a little more though. Am I just getting greedy now?
